Weekend O' Fun

Jay went to the WCHA college hockey tournaments Thursday night, Friday afternoon and night, and Saturday afternoon and night. He had lots of fun. As it happens, this coincided with a very busy weekend, so I ended up having the boys solo those days.
Friday night was the school carnival, Otterfest. I had a plan to get there early and exit by 6:45, making it home and to bed on time. HA. We did get there about five minutes before it opened at 5:30. There was already a huge line to get in. But, we were able to play a few games without big lines before we ate supper. We were doing pretty well on my theoretical timetable, and were just about to use our last tickets and go home when a nice boy asked us if we wanted some tickets. He had to leave and he gave us a new pile of tickets to use. Woo hoo... So, we ended up staying until 8:00 pm. But, the boys all had a ball. They played tons of games, like hockey shooting, soccer shooting and golf putting. Max actually got a hole in one on the golf - the guy working it said he was the first kid to do that (okay, it was pretty early in the night, but still)!
This weekend was Jake's hockey jamboree - the end of his hockey season that started in September. He had a game Saturday early afternoon and another one early evening. In between we went to celebrate Carly's 8th birthday. We all had fun at her party. It is so hard to believe she and Jake are turning eight this year. Where does time go?!
Sunday was Jake's last game (and Jay was there for that). They played full ice and had an announcer, music (80's rock classics, gotta love that), the national anthem, the whole works! It was so fun to watch. Jake made a great save as goalie ("Great save by number 3, JAKE NORDQUIST" on the loudspeaker) and scored the last goal of the game with about twenty seconds left on the clock ("GOAL by red number 3, JAKE NORDQUIST"). Max had fun watching too, and joined his mother's cheers by hollering, "GO GOPHERS!" Oh, well, at least he gets into the spirit of things. Later at home Max was singing "We Will Rock You".

After the game the whole team and all the families had a team party at Godfather's Pizza. It was fun. Jake got a nice trophy and his coach made him a cool hockey puck decorated with his name and number. It was a very nice end to the season.
BUT, spring breakaway hockey starts for Jake and Zach on Tuesday!

By the way, Grandma & Grandpa - Jake was one of only a few kids chosen for testing for the gifted program...I knew you'd like that. :)
