S.K.A.T.E. stands for "Skaters Keep Achieving Through Education". The Elk River Youth Hockey organization rewards kids for their excellence in education. Jake and Zach both qualified with their report cards and were invited to attended the awards banquet last night. We are so proud of them! It is a really great program for kids kindergarten through 12th grade. They had the captain of the Elk River high school boys hockey team (who also has like a 3.9 GPA) speak about the importance of studying hard and getting good grades. A high school girls hockey player who excels in school and John Scott who plays for the Minnesota Wild both spoke too.
They got t-shirts, cool bookmark reading lights, Gopher hockey tattoos, SKATE name tags for their hockey bags, gift certificates from Buffalo Wild Wings and a certificate of achievement. They also give out TONS of door prizes. The boys both got John Scott to autograph their t-shirts. Dinner was provided by Chipotle - yum! Lots of fun! It is so great for them to get such a good message about the importance of doing well in school.
